The Alaska Youth Leadership Forum (YLF) is a two-part transition program for youth and young adults with disabilities. Here, participants will learn about resources and tools that can support their goals, how to navigate the wide world of disability resources, as well as what it means to be a community leader with a disability.
Participants will learn from a variety of experts on topics such as employment, benefits, independent living, self-advocacy, assistive technology, and much more! In addition to sessions with guest speakers, participants will meet peers and mentors with similar lived experiences.
As part of the YLF, participants will also explore their goals for the future and develop an action plan to achieve them. All participants will leave with a clear path to achieve their goals and have access to peer mentoring to support their efforts.
The Youth Leadership Forum includes two types of events, described below. You can attend just one, or both in any order, and still have a great experience!
Regional YLF
The Regional Youth Leadership Forum (YLF) is a free, five-day overnight program that brings together young people with disabilities from across Alaska to build leadership skills, gain confidence, and prepare for their future. Through interactive workshops, guest speakers, and hands-on activities, participants will explore important topics like self-advocacy, teamwork, disability history and rights, assistive technology, career & education supports, navigating benefits, and more. The program also includes a community service outing, giving participants a chance to make a positive impact while building teamwork and leadership experience.
YLF is more than just a learning experience—it’s an opportunity to connect with peers and mentors who understand your journey and can help guide you toward success. You’ll meet professionals and explore real-world resources that can support your goals. If you’re ready to grow as a leader and take charge of your future, we encourage you to apply!
Person-centered Planning Workshop
The Person-Centered Planning Workshop is a free, two-day event designed to help young people with disabilities take charge of their future. Through hands-on activities and guided discussions, participants will explore their strengths, dreams, and challenges, then work step-by-step to create a clear plan for achieving their goals. Whether you’re thinking about school, work, or independent living, this workshop will give you the tools to make a plan that fits your vision for your life.
At the heart of this workshop is self-determination—you are the expert on your own life! Our facilitators will support you in exploring goals that reflect your interests and values. You’ll also get the chance to build confidence, develop leadership skills, and connect with others in a supportive environment. If you’re ready to take the next step toward your future, we’d love to have you join us!
Participants can APPLY NOW for both events.

We’re so glad to hear that! The Youth Leadership Forum couldn’t succeed without dedicated community members such as yourself. The best way to make an impact is by spreading the word or referring those who you think would benefit from participating in the Youth Leadership Forum. Flyers and other materials are also available upon request.
